We successfully launched our 2025 Thought Leadership Series this month with two engaging events held in London and Edinburgh, bringing together experts from healthcare and technology to explore the evolving future of radiology.
The series, titled “Shaping the Future of Radiology – AI, Discrepancies and Innovation,” aims to foster dialogue and share insight into how radiology can evolve through innovation, discrepancy management and the responsible integration of AI.
The first event, hosted at the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine, London, welcomed healthcare professionals and Medica clients and colleagues both in person and virtually. The session was chaired by Dr Rob Lavis, Medica’s Chief Medical Officer, and featured expert contributions from:
- Dr Garry Pettet, Clinical Safety and Audit Officer, Medica
- Dr Robert Hawkes, Consultant Paediatric Radiologist, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust
- Dr Rebecca Leung, Consultant Radiologist and Governance Lead, Princess Royal Hospital, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
The panel discussed how radiology can expand its impact not only by growing the workforce, but also by reducing clinician cognitive load, learning from discrepancies, and leveraging AI to enhance decision-making.
The second event took place at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh on Tuesday 18 June, with a fresh panel of speakers and a strong audience turnout. This session was chaired by Dr Gerald Lip, Lead for Artificial Intelligence at the University of Aberdeen Medical School and faculty lead for Educate by Medica. Speakers included:
- Dr Garry Pettet, Clinical Safety and Audit Officer, Medica
- Matt Lungren, Chief Scientific Officer, Microsoft Health and Life Sciences
- Dr Struan Wilkie, Radiology IT and AI Lead, NHS Grampian
Presentations explored the intersection of radiology and AI, how to harness data to reduce discrepancies, and the broader implications of innovation for clinical practice and patient outcomes.
Recordings of both sessions will soon be made available on the Medica website, extending the reach of the series to a wider audience. The next stop in the series will be Dublin in Q4 2025, with details to be announced shortly.
