11th July 2019

Medica Group are pleased to announce that Ian Edwards was selected as a finalist in the Newcomer of the Year category for the 2019 Cyber Security Awards. The Cyber Security Awards were established in 2014, to reward the best individuals, teams and companies within the cyber security industry. The Cyber Security Awards team reviews the industry, selecting finalists who are promoting best practice and innovation in the sphere of Cyber Security. They take nominations from all over the world including public and private, for-profit and non-profit, largest to smallest and new start-ups as long as the individual or organisation nominated have a presence within the United Kingdom.

Ian was appointed as Information Security Manager for Medica Group in 2018 and leads the Information Security and Risk team, maintaining the Group’s information security and quality management systems and leading on risk management and cyber security strategy. In the relatively short space of time with the company Ian has driven a security transformation programme including successful certification of the government backed Cyber Essentials scheme and completed our NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit. Ian is also delivering a fresh and modern security awareness programme to further develop Medica’s ‘human firewall’.

Members of the leadership team at Medica accompanied Ian to celebrate his achievements at the Cyber Security Awards dinner and presentation at the Park Plaza Hotel, London on the 4th of July.

Ben Garlick and Ian Edwards were interviewed on the night about Medica’s developments and achievements around Cyber Security – the video can be found here.

The awards judge on the night, Karla Reffold, has this to say about the standard of this year’s awards, “the competition this year was incredibly tough and diverse. This was the toughest year so far to have made the shortlist. There are so many fantastic individuals, innovative products and companies that are doing great things within cyber security.”

Medica would like to congratulate all the finalists and ultimate winners on the night and the team look forward to next year.
