Students at Mulberry St Leonards Academy in Hastings welcomed Medica Group Chief Medical Officer Dr Annabel Bentley for an inspiring session exploring healthcare careers, radiology, teleradiology and the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

On 18 June Dr Annabel Bentley, visited Mulberry St Leonards Academy in Hastings to inspire students to consider careers where they can make a real difference.
Speaking to pupils about her own career journey, Annabel shared her experience from NHS surgical training in the late 1990s through to her current role in teleradiology.
She highlighted the wide range of opportunities available across healthcare, encouraging students to think broadly about the paths open to them.
Bringing healthcare careers to life
During the session, students gained a real-world insight into how modern medicine is evolving. Annabel explained how advances in imaging, such as CT scanning, are supporting faster, more informed clinical decisions – and in some cases helping patients avoid unnecessary surgery.
She also spoke candidly about the challenges facing the NHS, including growing demand and workforce pressures, and the important role radiology plays in ensuring patients receive timely diagnosis and care.
Looking ahead: the role of technology
Looking to the future, Annabel introduced students to the increasing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. While technology is advancing rapidly, she emphasised that careers in medicine are evolving rather than disappearing, with a continued need for skilled clinicians.
Reflecting on the visit, Annabel said: “I was reminded why it’s so important to engage young people early. The level of curiosity and ambition in the room was fantastic to see – and it’s clear the future of healthcare is in very good hands.”
The session forms part of the school’s ongoing work to support students in exploring future education and career pathways.
