On Saturday, 3 October, Medica was delighted to attend and sponsor the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) Scottish Council Study Day and AGM, “Shining a Light on Scottish Excellence”. The event brought together radiographers from both Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiography, as well as students, educators and healthcare leaders from across Scotland.

The programme showcased the breadth of expertise within the profession, with discussions spanning civility, career development, paediatric care, research and evidence-based practice, the changing NHS Scotland landscape, neurodiversity, health inequalities and the imposter phenomenon.

Representing Medica at the event were Fodi Kyriakos, Specialist Advisor for X-Ray, and Steve Lacey, Business Development Manager for the region. Fodi was invited to speak on the panel discussion, “Civility Matters: Building Positive Cultures in Radiography.”

Chaired by Kelsey Normand, the panel brought together Louise Mifsud, Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography at Robert Gordon University, and students Aimee-Leigh Allan, Diagnostic Imaging Student at Glasgow Caledonian University, and Wiktoria Kurtok, Therapeutic Radiography and Oncology Student at Glasgow Caledonian University.

The discussion explored the importance of civility and positive workplace cultures, and the impact that everyday behaviours can have on staff wellbeing, confidence, retention, patient safety and, ultimately, patient care.

Fodi Kyriakos said:

“Civility is about much more than simply being kind. It is about how we communicate, support and behave towards one another, and how we shape the culture we work in every day. Creating environments where radiographers feel valued, respected and able to thrive is incredibly important for the future of our profession.”

Medica was proud to support an event celebrating the people, ideas and innovation helping to shape the future of radiography in Scotland, and to contribute to such an important conversation about the culture of our profession.
