We were delighted to welcome five students from four local schools to Medica last month for work experience placements, giving them a behind the scenes look at how we help support hospitals and patients across the UK.
Students from Mulberry Bexhill Academy, Claverham Community College and Barton Court Grammar School spent time with teams across our business to see first hand how patient scans are managed, reported and returned to hospitals to support diagnosis and patient care.
During their placements, students worked alongside colleagues in our Operations team, following the journey of a patient scan and learning how teams coordinate services between hospitals and clinicians. They also spent time with our IT teams, where they learned about the support provided to doctors and the work involved in maintaining the systems that underpin Medica’s services.
Fiona Carr, Medica’s Group Head of People and Culture, who presented the students with their certificates, said:

While many people immediately think of doctors and nurses, there are countless other roles spanning technology, operations, clinical support and business services that all play an important part in helping patients receive the care they need.
“It was fantastic to welcome students into Medica and give them a chance to see how our teams work with hospitals across the country. We hope the experience has helped build their confidence and encouraged them to think about the different paths that could be open to them.”
Supporting young people in our local communities is an important part of Medica’s commitment to helping develop the next generation of talent. By working with schools across the region, we hope to give students meaningful experiences that help them better understand the world of work and the many opportunities available within healthcare and technology.
Our work with local schools extends beyond work experience placements. Earlier this year, our Chief Medical Officer, Annabel Bentley, spoke to students at Mulberry St Leonards Academy about careers in healthcare, leadership and her own career journey. These sessions are designed to inspire young people and show them the many different routes into rewarding careers that make a difference to patients.
